Hoops & Hues
Turning popular basketball characters into a creative experience for kids.
Hoops & Hues is a personal TomMillerART project that grew from a simple observation: my basketball characters have always been especially popular with younger audiences. That gave me the idea to take the illustrations beyond social media and turn them into something children could actively interact with, not just look at.
The idea
Combine the energy of basketball with the creativity of coloring. Instead of traditional sports coloring pages, I used my existing character style to build a collection that feels playful, recognizable and fun for kids, each illustration designed specifically to work as a coloring page, while keeping the personality of the original characters.
From illustration to product
Hoops & Hues became a complete digital coloring book featuring a growing collection of basketball-inspired characters, available as a downloadable product that families can print and color at home. The characters became something interactive, with a completely new purpose beyond traditional illustration.
Taking it online
The next step was to bring the same experience into a digital environment: an online coloring game where kids choose characters and color them directly in the browser. Hoops & Hues expanded from a downloadable product into an interactive experience, with the same visual universe at the center.
A personal project that keeps growing
What started as basketball illustrations became a digital product, then an online game, all built around the same recognizable visual identity. And because the character collection can continuously expand, the project can keep growing with new illustrations, activities and digital experiences.
From character illustration to a world kids can play with.
